Data retention and deletion in Frame.io

Written by Jared

Frame.io retains customer data for as long as needed to provide the service and in accordance with applicable contractual, legal, security, and business requirements.

This article provides an overview of how data associated with a Frame.io account—including uploaded media, account information, and collaborative content—is handled throughout the account lifecycle.

Data retention

Content uploaded to Frame.io, including media, projects, and comments, is retained for the life of the account unless it is deleted by an authorized user or through an applicable account setting or lifecycle policy.

Certain account and service records may be retained for different periods where necessary to meet legal, security, billing, or other legitimate business requirements.

For free accounts, accounts and associated data may be deleted after four years of inactivity. Activity such as signing in to or using the service may reset the period of inactivity.

Removing users from an account

Frame.io Account Owners and Admins can manage individual users' access to their account.

Removing a user does not automatically delete content that the user created or contributed while they had access. Media, projects, comments, and other collaborative content are associated with the Frame.io account rather than the individual user. This helps preserve project history and workflow continuity when members leave an account.

For example, removing a user who previously left comments on an asset does not remove those comments.

Privacy and individual deletion requests

Individuals may request deletion of their personal information in accordance with applicable privacy laws. See the Privacy/GDPR article for information about submitting a privacy request.

An individual privacy deletion request is separate from deletion of a Frame.io account and its content. Collaborative content belonging to the Frame.io account may remain after an individual's personal information is deleted.

For example, historical comments may remain part of the account's project history, while the deleted user's display name is anonymized.

Closing or deleting a Frame.io account

Cancelling or downgrading a Frame.io subscription does not constitute a request to immediately delete the account and its content. Data associated with the account remains subject to applicable Frame.io data retention policies.

Account Owners who want to permanently delete their Frame.io account and its associated customer content should contact Frame.io Support for assistance.

Before requesting account deletion, customers should download or otherwise preserve any content they want to retain. Once deletion has been completed, deleted content may not be recoverable.

Certain records may be retained after an account is closed or deleted where required for legal, security, billing, or other legitimate business purposes.

Data deletion

When customer data is deleted—either through authorized actions within Frame.io, an account deletion request, or applicable retention policies—it is removed in accordance with Adobe's data deletion requirements.

Deletion may be subject to limited exceptions where information must be retained to comply with applicable legal or regulatory obligations.
