Workflow

Note: First ensure that you have a Frame.io Project mounted with Frame.io Drive.

  1. Click File > Open and locate your mounted Project.

  2. Open any image file from the mounted Project to immediately import into the Photoshop editor, or drag and drop your media directly from the Finder location into Photoshop. (Note: This requires no downloading onto your desktop as it's from the mounted Project based in cloud storage.)

  3. Continue to edit on your images with the cloud-based media within Photoshop.

  4. When exporting, you can render directly to your mounted Project which will upload automatically to Frame.io. The newly exported file will upload to Frame.io to that Project location. Make sure to monitor Upload Status in Frame.io Drive app to ensure file has completed it's uploaded.

Version Stack

If the Photoshop project is being saved to the Mounted Project, each save will create a new version on Frame.io up to a max of 250 versions. Once max is reached, oldest versions will be moved to trash. Only the latest version is ever visible in Finder/File Explorer.

Requirements

Follow these steps to modify Photoshop’s preferences for the best experience with Mounted Storage. Start by going to:

  • macOS - Photoshop 202X > Settings

  • Windows - Edit > Preferences

File Handling

Disable file compression when saving PSD and PSB files.

Preferences > File Handling > File Compatibility > Disable Compression of PSD and PSB Files: ☑️

Reduce the number of Recent File List Contains items.

Preferences > File Handling > Recent File List Contains: 5 files (or fewer)

Performance

Reduce the amount of system memory Photoshop uses.

Preferences > Performance > Memory Usage > Let Photoshop Use: 33%

Scratch Disks

Make sure your Scratch Disks aren’t full, and you're using a local SSD for this location.

Preferences > Scratch Disks

Edit > Purge

  1. Open a file in Photoshop.

  2. Go to Edit > Purge.

  3. Choose what Photoshop will purge to free up resources for other apps.

(Optional) Disable Saving Image Previews with your Photoshop documents

Saving image previews with your Photoshop documents on shared storage is known to cause slower file browsing performance and other unpredictable behaviors in Photoshop.

To stop Photoshop from saving image previews with your documents:

Preferences > File Handling > File Saving Options > Image Previews: Never Save
