Workflow

Note: First ensure that you have a Frame.io Project mounted with Frame.io Drive.

  1. Open Windows > Media Browser > Network Drives. Your mounted Project will appear here for you to navigate and view your media from Frame.io.

  2. Drag and drop any media file from the mounted Project to import into the Premiere timeline, or drag and drop your media directly from the Finder location into Premiere. (Note: This requires no downloading onto your desktop as it's from the mounted Project based in cloud storage.)

  3. Continue to edit on your timeline with the cloud-based media within Premiere. When ready to export for review, use the Frame.io Panel to export and upload enabling comments to stay in sync with your sequence.

  4. When exporting, you can render directly to your mounted Project which will upload automatically to Frame.io. The newly exported file will upload to Frame.io to that Project location. Make sure to monitor Upload Status in Frame.io Drive app to ensure file has completed it's uploaded.

Version Stacks

If the Premiere Project is being saved to the Mounted Project, each save will create a new version on Frame.io up to a max of 250 versions. Once max is reached, oldest versions will be moved to trash. Only the latest version is ever visible in Finder/File Explorer.

Requirements

Follow these steps to modify Premiere Pro’s preferences for the best experience with Mounted Storage. Start by going to:

  • macOS - Premiere Pro > Settings

  • Windows - Edit > Preferences

Audio

Disable these settings under Preferences > Audio:

  • Generate waveforms automatically during import

  • Auto-tag audio types in the timeline

Media

Disable these settings under Preferences > Media:

  • Write XMP ID to files on import

  • Write clip markers to XMP

  • Include captions on import

  • Automatically refresh growing files

Media Analysis & Transcription

Disable these settings under Preferences > Media Analysis & Transcription:

  • Analyze all imported media to visually search your projects

  • Enable language auto-detection

Media Cache

Under Preferences > Media Cache, set Media Cache Files > Location to a local SSD volume.

Memory

Under Preferences > Memory, tell Premiere Pro how much RAM (system memory) it should save for other applications while it's open.

Playback

Under Preferences > Memory, turn off Enable Mercury Transit to minimize Premiere Pro’s system memory (RAM) usage.

Scratch Disks

First, go to Premiere Pro > File > Project Settings > Scratch Disks

In most cases, you can set your Scratch Disks to a location on a super-fast, local volume (e.g. Documents or a [Custom] location).

If you set your Scratch Disks to a folder on Suite, for best performance, pre-cache your Scratch Disks in advance.
